Zilukha Nunnery is the only nunnery in the capital and is officially known as Drubthob Goemba. It was founded by the 16th incarnation of Thangtong Gyalpo, the famous "Iron Bridge Builder" of the 14th century. Historically, Thangtong Gyalpo was a legendary polymath who built dozens of iron chain bridges across the Himalayas, several of which still exist today. The nunnery maintains a close spiritual connection to his teachings.
The site offers a calm, meditative atmosphere away from the city's bustle. Visitors can often hear the melodic chanting of the nuns during their daily rituals. From the courtyard, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the Tashichho Dzong and the lush golf course below. It is a place of deep devotion where the community comes together to support the spiritual journey of these dedicated women.
